Human chorionic gonadotrpin (HCG) is a hormone that is produced by pregnant women and is made by the placenta. HCG is the an analogue of a pituitary hormone known as luteinizing hormone (LH). Because of it's similarity to luteinizing hormone it can be used to induce testosterone hormone production in the testes of men. This is an extremely important attribute and it is this quality that makes HCG supplementation an important part of successful testosterone hormone replacement therapy regimens.
When you are taking testosterone, whether through injections or creams and gels the boost of testosterone can cause your natural production of the hormone to fall off as your internal system wants to regulate your levels and since your internal system has been keeping your levels low when it detects higher levels it tries to compensate by shutting down your own production even more than it already was. Your body does this through the action of the pituitary gland, which cuts off production of luteinizing hormone. By taking HCG you can compensate this action of the pituitary gland
One of the side effects of this shut down of your bodies natural testosterone production system is the shrinking of the testicles. While most men, myself included learn about this and say "hold on a minute," you need to understand that it is not something that has to happen, and it won't if you follow all the directions of your physician with regards to proper dosing and additional hormones and estrogen blockers.
Human chorionic gonadotropin is taken via subcutaneous injection. This differs from the intramuscular injections you may have become familiar with as part of your testosterone injections. Subcutaneous injections are done with a very small high gauge (remember, higher gauge means smaller needle) syringe. They are usually taken around the mid section into the layer of fat cells. These injections are much easier to administer and are about as painless as sticking a needle through the skin could possibly be. It's important to maintain the same level of care when sterilizing the injection site and the bottles you use as well as the syringes when you are injecting. It's easy to get lazy on this but believe me this is one area where you don't want to take any risks.
When you take HCG hormone injections it makes your body start producing testosterone naturally in the testes again which will prevent any shrinkage of the testicles. It is also important to take HCG as part of any post cycle therapy treatment if your doctor has you going on and off cycles of testosterone therapy as it will help kickstart your natural testosterone production as you adjust to not taking the injections anymore.
